Jesus began the disciple-making process by spending quality time with his friends. Faith and Action follows Jesus’ model by spending time with families living in high-risk neighborhoods. We provide opportunities for families to learn about different cultures, become aware of places different from their daily experiences, and interact with people who care about them.
I have personally seen the impact that these events have in the lives of my students. First, all the kids want to come on the trips, which means they must be fun! They need quality fun to help them in our motto, “work hard, play hard, pray hard.” Second, they truly need new experiences to help them grow and develop. Studies show that new experiences are a key factor in higher reading levels.
They need fresh air, fun, and experiential knowledge in order to thrive holistically. Third, our students desperately need meaningful and encouraging adult interactions and mentorships. These are adults that recognize them, want to get to know them, and say, “You matter; you are intelligent, funny, and creative; you are capable of impacting the world for good.” You can truly change a life forever. Not only that, but seeing the same adults regularly means that students are being built up and learning how to create meaningful and long-lasting relationships – a life skill that many of our students need to develop.
Indiana Dunes : Nature scavenger hunt, flying kites, toes in Lake Michigan’s cold water, climbing up and running down sand dunes = lifelong memories created with caring, loving mentors.
Illiana Auto : On my field trip to Illiana Auto, I learned that the battery charges and helps start the car. There are lots of parts that make a car run and the motor takes up half the car! – Eric
Brookfield Zoo : A visit to Brookfield Zoo gave us an opportunity to spend quality time with a small group of kids while seeing God’s creation up close!
Packing School Supply Boxes : Partnering with Elim Christian Services, Faith and Action distributed approximately 650 school supplies to under-resourced boys and girls. A few of the recipients had the opportunity to serve and go behind-the-scenes to help pack some of the school supply boxes.
