Hopkins Park is located approximately 1 hour south of Chicago in Kankakee County near Momence, Illinois. Hopkins Park is considered to be the poorest town in Illinois and in an article from several years ago The Chicago Tribune called it “the town Illinois has forgotten.”
The former library in Hopkins Park consisted of 2 rooms in an old 800 sq. ft. farmhouse. Through the efforts of over 100 volunteers from Faith and Action, local churches, and people within the Hopkins Park community, the 15 year old dream of a new 8,000 sq. ft. library and community center was completed in 2014. Currently this building is not only used as a library but is also the center of activity within the community.
